a thought for the moment...
"Sometimes I just can't help but cry
When I think of what we've become
Like a soldier lost in the night
Forgetting all where he has come from
But the mud will soon become dry
And the sun will rise again
And the shadows in our eyes
Will fade away down to lower plains
Cause' You have one wing and I have another
Seeking shelter like sister and brother
Through the winter and through the summer
Like one angel we'll
Fly far away "

So someone is hosting a contest of great female characters, and I decided to make a nomination.

Vote for Tohru!

No other Fruits Basket characters have been nominated yet as of where my comment shows up on p. 13, so if anyone wants to make another nomination, you don't have to check every single page.

Also, I put in my vote on these threads:

Nymphadora Tonks

(Hermione, Ginny, Luna, Molly, and Fleur all have threads as well, but I didn't save the links. Sorry.)

Sakura Haruno

Not nearly enough anime girls are nominated so far, IMO! There are some threads for several of the Sailor Senshi, though, if anyone wants to find them. (I definitely recall seeing Moon, Mars, and Neptune.)

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle also has a thread, but I didn't see any other Miyazaki girls.

Katara, Toph, and Azula all have threads if anyone wants to find them. They all have a lot of votes right now, too, so I actually didn't bother voting for them.

Most of you who are Furuba fans probably already know about the Fruits Basket Scrapbook competition Tokyopop recently ran to celebrate the release of the final volume in the series. Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know that they put up five of the entries on their website, and it just so happens that the entry my cosplay group submitted is one of the five! :D Go check it out (it's the only one with cosplay pics, so it should be obvious which one it is):

Fruits Basket Scrapbook entries

It's not clear to me what that means as far as whether or not we made it into the actual scrapbook that is supposed to be delivered to Natsuki Takaya. I get the impression showing up on the website might be a "runner up" deal. Either way, it's nice to have our entry recognized.

Just a note that The Worst Contest Ever is taking a little bit longer to judge than originally anticipated. I read through the entries and narrowed them down to a top 10 for the haiku and short story categories, but we're missing a couple of judges for part 2, where we pick the winner from each category! I'm hoping they'll be in town this weekend. If not, we'll just move forward with a smaller panel of judges! Apologies for the delay.

This weekend I attended Anthrocon as a dealer. This was my first AC and furry convention in general. It was a lot tamer than I expected and my fantasy & monster artwork was very well received even though it was not actually anthropomorphic in nature. (two issues I was worried about!) I will definately consider attending again next year, although AC does fall uncomfortably close to Otakon, and I do not know if it will be possible to attend both.

Here are some photos from the con.

More photos behind the cut. )

During the con I finished up Omni's dragon. :-)
